Lab:  Catch up on annotating and submitting notes for source #5. Email questions work with others you know who can help with technology.  COMMUNICATIONS IS THE KEY!

Lab:  Begin organizing materials and deciding ON HOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER.Your C-notes are already organized according to the argumentative format.  Each page indicates Arg.#1,#2,#3, Counter, Rebuttal.  Your notes should already be organized in this fashion and in your own words so this should be the semi-easy part. Check with me, google doc or email.  If you submit good docs it may take me a couple hours to get to you because there are a lot of you and only one me.

Begin working on the draft outline.  Outlines MUST have in text citation at the least each per paragraph because

Please see Freshman page for Everything Research. The instructions will be the same until we get to the paper.  Freshmen do the project. Sophomores do the paper. Thank you so much. Once we finish the paper we will begin reading our book Anthem by Ayn Rand.  Please do not hesitate to email me with questions concerning research.  The expectation is that we will finish the paper before spring break since we will still be at home.  I will not assign anything over the spring break dates unless you ask me for the book and materials because you are trying to balance out the weight of your other classes.  Remember communication is the key.  Email me.

Friday: LAB  We will begin typing out papers today, but we first must take a look at our thesis statement.

At this point everyone is familiar, or should be familiar, with Purdue Owl.  Although we have briefly addressed the thesis statement, please take a look at Purdue Owl's section on the thesis statement. This is a tool you all will use for the remainder of your time in high school and beyond. We know:

  • A thesis statement is not a question, it is a statement.

  • It is a statement that tells us what the paper is about.

  • A thesis is a debatable statement. Thus the paper's argument.

  • The thesis statement is the last sentence in the introduction.

These are the basics, but a good thesis is more and that is why it is important to go to Purdue Owl and read more!

A number of students have NOT submitted their outlines with in text citations.  You MUST submit and receive feedback on the outline before beginning your paper.  Remember: as a requirement for graduation these steps MUST be completed and submitted.  Those who do complete all the steps and paper will NOT receive credit.

Once you have SUBMITTED your outline and received feedback, you may begin writing your 3-5 page double spaced argumentative paper.  Purdue Owl is your best friend when it comes to formatting issues. Please email with specific questions after seeking the answer for yourself.  I am happy to help. There are several DO NOTs that we went over in class:

No first person pronouns (I, we, us)

No contractions (don't, can't)

Continue typing your paper using appropriate in-text citations.
